The Power of Restoration

May 24, 2025 Off By John Rains

We often think of restoration as fixing what’s broken—repairing a house, a car, a situation. But the restoration God does goes deeper. It’s not just about putting things back together—it’s about bringing them back to life.

And sometimes, He shows us this not through thunder or miracles, but through something as small and silent as a wounded animal learning how to trust again.

There was a cat, Tigger or Tigs – a survivor of cruelty, closed off, guarded. He’d learned that the world hurt. That people couldn’t be trusted. That safety was an illusion.

But love is patient.

Over the years, he changed—not overnight, but gradually. Slowly, with kindness. He stopped hiding. He started playing. He purred. He gave affection. And when his time came, he left this world at peace—held, loved, safe.

That’s the power of restoration.
And that’s exactly what God does with us.

Joel 2:25“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…”

God doesn’t just forgive our sins. He restores our hearts. He untangles our fears. He breaks down walls. And if we let Him, He will turn the most broken places in our lives into testimonies of grace.

Tigs story is more than a memory—it’s a picture of what love can do. Of what God can do.

If He can restore a frightened animal, how much more can He restore a wounded soul?

So don’t give up on the ones who’ve been hurt. Don’t stop praying for the ones who’ve shut down. And don’t count yourself out if you’ve been broken.

Isaiah 61:1–3“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted… to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes.”

That’s the gospel. That’s restoration.
